Mid-Year Resolution Check In

Somehow we've made it half way through 2017 already! And while it is cliche to talk of time flying, I'm going to mention it anyway. I found that this year has passed very quickly so far, and I figured I should check on my New Years Resolutions to see how I've been progressing.

Egress Mag had little disposable camera's to hand around and someone snapped this ultra flattering pic of me!

1. More Craft Shows

My goal for this year was to hit up at least five craft shows, and I have to say I'm already pretty close! I started the year off strong with two crafts shows on the same day (yikes!) I participated in Shivering Song's Handmakers Market, and then that evening ran over to Shiftwork Studio to participate in the Egress Mag's Happening Launch. Then, in April, I participated in Flourish Festival's Evening market and Zine Fair! (Does that count as two craft shows or one?) It's been lovely so far, and I've met so many kind people from these events.

2. Clean It Up!

I've tried bringing in balls of tangled yarn to school with me so I could use the ball winders we have, but it looks like it's going to be a much larger task than initially anticipated, so I'm considering investing in my own ball winder now.

3. FINISH HIM

UFOs continue to be a problem for me! Almost immediately after writing my New Years Resolution blog post I started another blanket. But I've been making some progress on my UFOs while binge watching X-Files (I'm very committed to this joke).

4. Give it away/ Give it away/ Give it away now

This is something I definitely need to work on. I've had a hard time finding things I can donate during the warmer months since I mostly work with wool. But I've learned how to sew this year, so I'm hoping to at least teach others how to mend their own clothes.

Well this didn't work at all. My instagram still remains in a lovely theme, but this has made it more challenging for me to update daily since I need to colour coordinate everything. I got pretty busy with school and theatre that I didn't really find the time to work on social media. But I have gotten much better at answering messages and comments!

6. Stop, collaborate, and listen

A lot of my collaborations this year have been with music (I'm learning to play mandolin) and poetry, and not with my textile work. But I love creating with others in any way that I can, so I consider this a success.

7. Which craft?

Looks like I'm going to major in knitting like I originally planned! I absolutely love weaving, and kept dressing the loom with new projects even when I had a million other assignments because I found it to be so calming. But I know knitting will always be my first love and first choice. I find it more versatile for me, and I have an easier time designing knit projects over woven ones.

8. Proper Documentation

Well it's a good thing that I decided to do this mid-year review because I completely forgot about this resolution! While I've gotten better at writing down my patterns (I had to for school) I definitely haven't logged any project into my knitting journal.

9. Back in Business

Yeah, that still hasn't happened yet.

10. Knit more shit

I'm proud to say that I'm always quite committed to this resolution. I've been knitting more, and I've been knitting more challenging projects. I've finally tackled colourwork, I continue my love of cables, and I'm trying to get more comfortable with lace.

While this year is going by quickly, I believe I'm doing a fairly decent job keeping up! There are obviously things I need to work on, but I'm pretty proud of how hard I've been working toward my goals. How have your resolutions been going?
